Hasselback potatoes are easy to make and delicious! Serve as a side or a main, they go well with almost anything and they look gorgeous 🙂

When you fancy baked potatoes but have only small potatoes in hand, this recipe will come in handy. It takes shorter to cook compared to baking potatoes and they are really yummy , especially when served with something like salad, baked beans or chilli. They look great when they come out from the oven with the sliced parts open and the golden brown colour.
These Hasselback Potatoes are
- Super easy to make
- Delicious and healthy
- They cab be served with almost anything
- Totally budget friendly
- Visually appetising
The name of the dish came from Swedish word Hasselbacken. Crispy on the outside and tender soft on the inside, the baked potato slices are similar to thick potato chips, but the slices are still attached to the base.
Ingredients needed
- Medium or small sized potatoes
- Oil
- Salt
When you slice the potatoes, you need to make sure you don’t cut to the bottom completely. I place chopsticks, one stick on each side to stop the knife going down. See the picture below.

Quick making guide
- Wash the potatoes and slice each one but make sure they are still attach to the base.
- Place them on a baking tray and drizzle some oil over and sprinkle some salt.
- With your hand, rub the oil into each potatoes until well coated.
- Bake for about 30 minutes (200°C Gas mark 6) until golden brown. The baking time varies depending on the size of your potatoes.
You don’t need to used a lot of oil but please make sure you coat the potatoes well with the oil so that the potato skins will come out crispier! I made vegan English breakfast with these potatoes 🙂
